.ca Domains > CIRA Issues
  1. Who is CIRA?
CIRA is a non profit organization in charge with running the .ca domain registry.
  2. What is a registrant? What is a registrar?
A registrant is the entity to whom a domain name is registered.

A registrar is a CIRA certified body that allows registrants to register and manage .ca domains. It is a link between registrants and CIRA.

  3. I keep getting errors that my registrant name is invalid. Please help.
CIRA implements strict screening criteria to make sure the registrant name is entered correctly and matches the type chosen.

If the registrant is a company, the name entered must match the name of the company in the Canadian registry. In particular, all prefixes and suffixes should be entered the way they are in the registry. For example, .inc and .ltd,...

If the registrant is a person then both first and last names should be entered.

For all registrants, extra care should be made to avoid unnecessary spaces as this will invariably lead to rejection.

  4. How do I retrieve my CIRA username and password?
Login to your account at myid.ca and click on arrow next to the registrant you want CIRA username and password for. At the top, click on 'CIRA account' under 'Changing contacts and other CIRA functions'. Your CIRA username and password will then be emailed by CIRA to the admin contact email address.
