  1. What exactly is the whois function?
    The whois function allows you to see if a certain domain name is available for registration. If it is not available, then it will return contact information about the entity that has registered this domain name.

  2. I am very concerned about my privacy and want none of my identifying info to show up in the whois record. Can I do that?
    CIRA currently requires that certain info be displayed on whois queries, namely the registrant name, and the admin contact phone number,email address, city, province and postal code (If applicable).

    There is a new proposed CIRA whois policy that would not require that identifying info to be publically displayed:
